Norman Rockwell, my favorite painter
is scorned by the elite as a mere illustrator.
No need to wonder what his work is about,
each picture is clear and leaves not a doubt.
He draws from real life, in our work and our play,
in each painting a message with plenty to say.
You may think me uncultured, an oaf and a fool,
but I cry at the little girl going to school.
He caught the tension and emotion so raw
as she marches so bravely, escorted by law.
Though perhaps not the Master as was Paul Cezanne
Rockwell told the story of modern man.
Like Cezanne he painted the world that he knew.
He put his heart and his soul into all that he drew.

Joyce,

He, Norman Rockwell, certainly did capture everyday American life and, after reading many of your poems, I can certainly understand your attraction to his works.

Is 'the problem we all live with' the masterpiece that you've referenced?

Just curious.

Anyway, thanks for sharing, nice to hear from you, and God bless,

-Bob

Joyce,

I love this.  When I was a little girl one of my mother's friends would lend me jigsaw puzzles of Post covers.  Each was a Rockwell and I loved putting them together.  They were the only jigsaw puzzles that I truly loved.

Well said, Joyce.  Excellent tribute to one of my favourite 20th century artists.  He managed to imbue his work with a Will Rogers type of folksy humour and wholesomeness.  Many thanks for this sensitive work.

Dear Joyce, you gave me the opportunity to google some of his works and I loved what I found, as it is really a mirror of American life. What we really love becomes our masterpiece, I think. It's beautiful how you honor this painter.

Love,
Margherita

He is just a favorite of mine, and in particular, I love the dentist.   Nice tribute Joyce.

I think art, like beauty, is all in the eye of the beholder, Joyce. Lovely poem.

Enjoyed This Alot.

I Thought of You Today,
And What We Could've Had
For A Brief Moment I Had You
And Still, I Somehow Knew
I'd Have To Let Go

LIFESTILLS - I call them, old or new, artist have an outlook that even the blind find extrodinary.

Masterpieces are bits and pieces of their masters, no matter the form.

Nice to see you Joyce!  : )
