The house is old and dying Surrounded by wheat Outbuilding in attendance Her beauty fades and crumbles I fear we’ll be the last to love her She seduced my husband with her charms She was cold and lonely Another casualty on the Kansas plain She coaxed him in and touched him He called her home Then she winked at me As I drove by Reminding me of a house I’d left behind I hadn’t a clue It puzzles me still I resisted her I hated her But I couldn’t deny Her call Her touch She took us in And wrapped her warmth around us She told us stories of her youth And days of dignity I knew from the beginning We couldn’t save her Though we often dreamed of it On her moonlit August porch We did what we could But it was never enough I think she understood |

Lori, what a beautiful read. The visuals with it were crisp and clear as an autumn dawn. There is an older house just down the lane from us that has been sold. I hope the buyers will feel the spirit of the house, and listen to the tales it has to tell. Thank you. Lori - Creative prose at its captivating best. It pulls you in perhaps more to say that no life, animate or inanimate, likes to die alone without telling why it loved to live. That's something we all may have to face one day. Because with limited mortality, we are an endagered species too. Great job Lori. It makes a fan of the reader. Namyh |

I recognize the personality of old houses, or maybe, its their ghosts that I sense. I could relate to the story here. Thanks for penning... Shenachie |
