Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Dawn found
Doe eyed carcass entrails
Splayed upon a back road
For a witches read
Swearing as much
‘bout the broken bike as
What he still can‘ t believe
Eyes playing tricks
Mind wandered off
Maybe
No way did he see
No
Couldn’t be
A woman was there
Big dark eyes
Long golden warm
Brown hair
Only
A wisp of white
She wore
Gently
Into the
Break of day

Evocative and symbolic in its simplicity, this gentle, magical piece transforms the disgust of wanton slaughter into a metaphor for sharing our world with all the wondrous creatures who are our neighbours.

Ah--the deer are so hard to see--especially after dark--that it is dangerous to be out on the road at night.  It does seem that they have a tendency to jump the wrong way.
