Fair to middlin' of nowhere

There was a time
That I believed
Like Eve
With innocent ignorance
In my garden nation
A picture perfect picnic
In a symbolic sanctuary

Black ants marched
Somewhere
Out there
Not here
Not us
Not
Mom And Apple Pie

The hot juicy lie
The taste of complicity
The faded rose
Of  knowing

Now
These truths we hold
To be
Self evident

Are conveniently spun
Into a gerrymandering
Double headed
Self serving
Dictator
Loosely Disguised
In Old Glory
Pomp and hypocrisy

P.T. Barnum’s
Sideshow of Democracy
Shamelessly posturing
Bait and switch principles
Informally amending
Just so many words
On paper

The pink spectacles
Flew off
To who knows where
And what am I to do

Stand up and be counted
Out of the Rubberstamp College
And to the Republic for which
Won’t stand for me

The bully that won’t let me play
Steals my milk money
Ideas for his major parties
In the executive suite
Judging appointments
To suit their supreme
Agendas

In God We Trust
But in power they play
Pretend to Separate
Church and State

Until Campaign Time
Comes a courting’
Thumpin’ and rollin’
Out the red plank
For all those righteous votes
Clamoring for
Validating vindication
Of Bible born legislation
That ignores
The fundamental worth
Of those outside
Their congregation

You can “petition”
They say with a grin
And patronization
Fingers crossed thinking
“We still won’t let you in”
(in lament of Politics-circa: George Dubya)

Very heavy political commentary here, Lori.  I love this piece, and wonder why it has only received the comments of one lone, and liberal, Canadian.  Neat summary of a very bad time for American liberals, as rights were eroded, doublespeak was employed, and the Land of the Free jackbooted towards (to quote Monty Python)"something completely different."  Very brave. Very commendable. Can it happen again? You bet your boots, boys and girls.  It is happening right here and now in Canada.  Sic transit gloria.
Well done.  It needed to be said.

Like the way you talked about what has happened to the good ole U S of A.  My mouth is still hanging open--dumbfounded and speechless.

You said it well...
