Last night we talked about the sum of our lives
We ignored the police crime show that was on tv.
We pondered over the four children we created,
and what their fates will be--one waits for us in heaven.
And what of the four grandchildren what will be their fate.
Did we have a right to bring them into this world?
In to a world with so much hate and indifference.
What if they die a horrible painful death.
Instead we could have gone to Peru and helped
little children learn their lessons.
Life in the middle of exotic, beautiful
mountains, among people with strange faces.
We could have moved to Paris
rented a garret and painted
impressionist paintings that rivaled Van Gogh's
Lived on bread, cheese and wine in the midst
of great beauty. Think of it:living in a painting.
We discussed this a great length years ago.
We drifted into the same path that most
others take. Job, House, Children, Friends.
By making no decision, we made a decision.
We know we are lucky: no divorce, no anguish
over visiting rights, no guilt with abandoning.
We argue over who threw the first snow
ball fifty years ago, and who stepped on the
others foot first when dancing, forty years ago.
Our brothers know each other and
we have parties together with children.
.What if we had taken a different path.
Gone to Los Angles to make police shows
for instance.
But we wanted to stay close to our parents
to help them in their old age. The pull was
to strong to let us leave.
And we are not sorry, but what could have been?
Still we laugh at each other and ourselves often.
We have old friends, what could be better?

Sorry if this poem is boring to you. How could we expect to have anything interesting to say. Thanks for reading ours. We will read your's without complaining. By By

Endearing poetry, as vivid as life.
Enjoyed the style; flowed like the conversation... coffee and tea.

When you have each other, old friends and family to wonder about, the suppositions and might-have-beens are just ways to dream together. *S*

GBride, no not boring at all.In fact rather pleasant to read something soft and loving such as you posted.Tired of all the gripes and complaints we are hearing around the country. WE are all in the same world after all and what effects  others effect us also. All we can do is try to keep that smile and spread a little happiness around. Thank you for the post. What could have been  maybe really is. latearrival.
