MY HORSE AND A COLLEAGUE’S DAUGHTER’S CAT
14 August 2009

I was retching hot tears
out of my gut
and heart
and lungs
as I drove home
after hearing of the death
of a colleague’s daughter’s cat.

I had never met
nor heard of
the kitty
before,
but I mourned her catness
with the erupting marrow
of my screaming bones
and a million ragged nerve-endings,
jangling multiple messages
in a cacophony of pain.

I knew
Flicka,
my darling angel horse in Heaven,
would have met her at the gate
(as he does all animals
and certain special people)
and would be showing her around Heaven
and introducing her to everyone
and making her
comfortable
and welcome
and loved,
but I knew also
that he would understand and feel
my need
to make sure
he had found her

and he did
and he comforted me
in ways that
only
he
knows how.

His daily cloud messages to me
today were all about the cat
whose name I didn’t know.
He told me everything
knowing I would want to know
every
tiny
detail –
how well, he knows me -
some clouds were dark and sombre
to honour the passing
of the kitty
from mortal
to immortal life;
others warm-orange bright
to celebrate
the kitty’s years on Earth;
some clouds were happy fluffy ones
with a backdrop of baby-blue
to symbolise the joy awaiting her in her new world;

and on my home-coming stretch
my precious, darling horse
dramatically
flung wide
the curtains of Heaven
and showed me
the golden sunbeam staircase
the kitty trotted up
to a soft cloud
large enough
for her to sit on
(and not be afraid of falling off)
as Flicka opened the gate
with ceremony and welcome,
and behind them, the flaming sun
the symbol of certainty
of the kitty’s safety,
and regained health
and glorious happiness.

Flicka, my darling,
you slowly dried my tears
and I was able to smile,
albeit wanly at first,
knowing that
the kitty-cat
will forever be
in your loving care
and one of your
many much loved friends.

How on earth can I thank you?

Hi Owl! You sound like an animal lover, like me. It is so sad when animals die.

Yes, Sue, I love all animals.  My horse has been in Heaven for 8 years now, but I miss him every day.  When he was alive, he adored all animals and people and they all adored him.

What an emotional read. I was reminded of how I felt when my kitty-kat "Magic" passed after 18 years of giving me her love. I was devastated. But in my heart I know she is in heaven with Flicka. Flicka has a grand spirit and is kept quite busy on the Other Side.

Diana, world-renowned psychic, Sylvia Browne has written a book entitled "All Pets Go to Heaven: The Spiritual Lives of the Animals We Love"

If you haven't read it, it might be worth your while to purchase a copy. You can order it from several of the on-line book sellers.

You have a tender heart and a magnanimous spirit, Dear Wise One.

Love to you and a big warm hug,

Linda xo

Thank you, Lindsay.  Yes, animals have such pure souls, and the ones that seem mean have been badly treated by humans at some stage, and just need love and care to bring them back to happiness.

Thank you,  Linda.  Yes, I know your darling kitty Magic is with Flicka.  Yes, Flicka is very busy, but doing what he loves most, loving all animals and people and looking after their happiness.  Thank you for the name and author of the book.  Loving animals isn’t something I do – it is something they do for me.

Thank you for your sigh Kushal.  Yes I am OK.  I don’t know what I would do without Flicka or my son or my Pip friends, including you, who all always understand.

Your infinite love is the best way to thank Flicka!
An extraordinary write, dear Diana, you go far beyond the appearances with your inner senses. Death transforms into radiance.

You shine, dear Diana.

Love,
Margherita

As I only grew up with the
story of Flicka,

I indeed hope to pieces that
your horse will meet me when
it is my time.

I will know more than I should,
at that very moment.

Your compassion tears at tears.

and then leaves more.

Thank you for your very beautiful message, Karilea.  YES, you will meet Flicka when it is your time.  He and I will make sure of that.  However, you can't know more than you should because the more you know, the happier you will be.  You and Flicka will adore each other.

Dear Owl,

You embrace all God's creatures and care for them with your hands and heart.  While, I felt the sadness and pain - I had to smile too.  We all move on, how nice to be meeted with love and respect.

Margherita, I am so sorry!  I thought I had replied to your response.

Thank you Margherita and Alison for your wonderful deep understanding of Flicka and all he means to me and everyone who has met him and hundreds of people who haven't.  Anyone who loves Flicka is an extremely special friend of mine, and that includes you both!  (Of course, you are extremely special friends of mine for lots of other reasons, too!)

I can't imagine how I will feel when my kitty dies. She's getting old. But I'm definately gonna save this poem cuz I know I will need it.
That was so compassionate.

Larzana, my horse will look after her wonderfully.  All animals and people loved him and he loved them all back.  He used to have a duck that slept in his stable.  The duck never slept in any other stable.  There were 2 cats that were particular friends of his - one spent about 20 out of every 24 hours with him and the other used to walk with us almost every day after he had had a ligament injury.  Where other horses were afraid of dogs, he used to put his head down to say hello to them.  I used to offer people ten million (South African) rand (and I didn't have a cent to spare) if they could get my horse to bite or kick them.  When I saddled him for a ride, I used to hold his bridle up next to his head and he would put his head into it opening and closing his mouth over the bit.  He was the most wonderful horse in the world and now is the most wonderful horse in Heaven.

This is why you're such a unique, incredible person... your empathy and compassion are unmatched! *S* You haven't just sympathized with my losses and fears... you've empathized... and in doing so, lifted my spirits. Flicka is just continuing what he learned with you. *S*

Thank you for your wonderful words, Ruth, but it is I who have learned so much from Flicka and all the animals I have ever met, esPECially love and compassion, and who can help but adore animals - I know you adore your kitty-babies, and that they adore you.  I am happy to have lifted your spirits.  I want you and them to be well and happy and hope that you all have got over, in as much as it is possible, your horrendous experience in the hurricane - I was hanging on to that door frame with all my might for you and felt that terror of not knowing where your kitty cats were, and felt the overwhelming relief when you found one, then the other.
