So, I had an assignment for a grad class to write a poem about what a teacher is. I thought I'd share my intrepretation of my profession. ![]() I am an explorer. I find the resplendence nestled in the dark, hesitant corners and I whisper “Now is the time to blaze.” I am a beacon. I call to me the vessels that others have cast off as flotsam, the wreckage of our day But I lend them light and respite from the waves. I am an inventor. I tinker with new paradigms and construct each of my days to house as many different faces as are colors in a sunrise. I am a voyager. I nourish my caravan with perspectives and then lead them out into the dust to choose their own trails as intrepid dreamers. I am a teacher, a catcher of hopes and tears, a weaver of possibilities, and a grower of lives. |

Beautiful interpretation of your infinitely important profession! "Grower of lives", yes! Your awareness of your role is indeed a powerful inspiration! Love, Margherita ![]() |

"I am a teacher, a catcher of hopes and tears, a weaver of possibilities, and a grower of lives." ~ Alwye, the perfect closing to a fine write on what it means to be teacher!!! My eldest daughter is a teacher and she recently finished graduate school with a masters degree in education (M.Ed.). I am going to show her your poem. She is going to love it! ![]() I have a tremendous amount of respect for the teaching profession. Blessings of love and joy to you, dear teacher! ![]() ![]() ![]() Linda |

And that is why I respect teachers. You wrote of your profession so beautifully. I loved the last stanza and how it tied the whole poem together. ~Jill |

I love it, Krista and having been a full time teacher though a substitute now~~ I don't think I could have written it any more beautiful~~ It's one of those that should be made into a poster ... M |

I just wish someone had written that for you! So true, and without teachers that really enjoy teaching we would be in one big mess. Many kids today will turn to a teacher before their parents as at least they are there to talk to when needed. Lovely poem, and thank you for being a teacher. |
