Just beyond the breakers at Rockaway Beach,
stands an imposing shoreline sentinel
locals and tourists call Twin Rocks.
But I nicknamed these natural rock formations
my Pacific Rock Nessie,
for they are naturally sculpted
in the shape of a winsome sea dragon.
My Rock Nessie guards this bit of coastline
playfully but with great dignity.
On damp foggy mornings
she capriciously plays hide-and-seek,
daring me to capture her
with my camera lens.
When boisterous waves dance about her,
she holds her head high,
digs her feet deep into the sand.
My Nessie has no fear, no need to hide
from would-be mercenaries
who would greedily turn her into
an Amusement Park if they could.
My Pacific Rock Nessie
stood solidly on this Oregon shore
thirty years ago for me
while I flew handmade kites
in the brisk winds of early summer.
She stands strong today,
no doubt will still be there
when all those new condos
up on the hill crumble.
I salute you,
My Pacific Rock Nessie!

I love walking down those areas. Beautiful visuals dearest Kacy! ~This is so lovely. Even the rocks that shaped into pictures. A very magical moment in time, cherish these moments.

I took that photo last July, when I spent two days at Rockaway Beach, one of my all-time favorite places on the Oregon Coast.
And now, I may be moving there or within 15 miles of Rockaway next month!
Can you see me smiling?

I can see you smiling from here, probably why my laptop screen is exceptionally bright at the moment!

Thanks, Bobby! I rarely add photos, but this was a necessity!

Lindsay, that was a nice reply!

Jo, yes, back to Oregon, and my beloved Pacific. I'll be changing my personal photo after I get re-located. I do have one from a couple months ago, just never got around to posting it!

awesome, it does look like Nessie!

I've been to Loch Ness to see him, but little did I know he was right here in America

I can really feel your heart in this one. It's as if you answered a call by your "Rock Nessie" by going back there.

I am so glad to hear you enjoy moving back to the Pacific coast. You will plant new flowers there too ...

Wonderful work, in words and picture, dear Kacy.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks Martiniat8!(make mine a sweet red wine).

Margherita, thank you for that feedback.
I guess Nessie really is calling me 'back home' to the mighty Pacific.

a 'repost' topic most fine ... well deserving of a return near the top of the 'blue page' queue!

... continuing applause for this imagery (both photographic and 'poetic')!!

Hello midnitsun, I would so much like to be there on oregon coast and see Nessie, you drawed a circonstancial and vivid portrait of this rocky animal, enjoyed the read. I was guessing too it was a repost, or a rework ? However thanks for the splendid poem.

have  a nice day

I knew it! I absolutely knew it! Nessie does exist! Leave it to my poet friend the Naturalist to prove it! ~ Hmmm, but I thought Nessie was in a loch in Scotland? ~ lol ~ Just foolin' with you, Kacy!

What a delightful post! ~ and I enjoyed reading all of the replies that it engendered!

Exciting news about your up-coming move back to your beloved Oregon! ~ and I look forward to that new photo of you once you've settled in!

Love and a big, warm hug,

Linda
