Dawn

And just before
A crimson glow
Begins to fill
The Eastern sky

A red flare
Into the air
A whistle blows
Amid cannon fire

And young men
For lovers mothers
And Fatherland
Armed and uniformed
In battle gray

Get up and out
Of scars in earth

And go off to die

.
