Things with him/them, you, may not understand
the way he or she stays
the way he or she plays
the mysterious hand

projecting an air of self confidence

in independence
an indepen-dance

in self defense
a self defense

mechanism

while he or she dies
while he or she cries

a voice is spoken
a voice full token

here
hear

"carry on"
"tarry on"

hidden
hidden

to all
but the  handful crew
those that are close

probably no more
no less
than one
or two

it's a test of sorts
to those that read
to those that look
and to those that see

smoke and mirrors
smoke and mirrors

which do you believe
Do you see the man
the mask

"task"
"ask"

or do you just look
listen
and read

leave

We can hardly face or understand our own masks so yes we have problems reading through the masks of others. Enjoyed your input. latearrival.

This poem is much deeper than it would at first appear ~ but on second read, I looked beyond the surface (behind the mask, if you will! lol)and appreciated what you were saying, even more! I concur, that we should take more than just a cursory glance at the people and the world around us. There is more that meets the eye!

Enjoyed reading your thoughts!

Big hug,
Linda

Once I went to an advisor and told her I was not being successful with women. She told me to watch men who were successful with women and imitate these men.
I told her that I would be playing a game if I did this, it would not be honest.
She told me that those who do not play the game do not win.
I decided not to play the game, but won anyway just being myself.

lol That's quite a paradox, GBride. It was more about judging or forming conclusions based on appearance without looking deeper, tasking people to ask, and delve deeper rather than, base judgments on facade or easily made misconceptions.
