Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2009-08-15 02:45 AM

Gentle laps the warmth of thighs
Teasing the ragged, jagged
Bottom of cutoff levi’s
Pale skin implores the sun’s touch
Nylon line swooshes into humid air
Casting high into the current
And the hook is a pawn
Only a pawn

Sinking, skimming the surface,
Drowning in brown silt heavy
Garish colors seeking attention
Longing to lazily float
Then slipping into murky waters
Carrying surrendered glaciers
Some place, any place

Overhead the clouds accumulate
Dismal chaste gray drapes
The candy-colored piñata sun
(Far too loud on a khaki day)

Beckoning water
Promises cool caress
Sensual heat builds

Casting away the day
The line caught in silver
A kind of mathematical arc
Released by unbending laws of physics
Gulping the lure into the water
With a burp

Beavers slap tag-you’re-it games
As intruding rain showers
Draw magic rain rings
Drum rat-a-tatting rhythm
On Cottonwood leaves

This is a great poem about fishing. I am going to print it off and read it through later today and then reply again.
It is raining with thunder and lightening here in Nebraska in the very early morning. So I am up reading poetry. I like your poem. Let my study it a little longer later today and then I will reply again. Thanks

Fishing Alison-style, sounds pretty dang good to me! Shove, Love! Give me a bit of that shore-line!

"The candy-colored piñata sun
(Far too loud on a khaki day)"

~ Uniquely descriptive!!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this respite from ha hustling-bustling day!

Happy fishing!

Alison, How do you do that?  You take my breath away as the words that I read slip quietly between my lips and smile at the picture you paint.

Ok,  on the other side,  I sure would love to see you in cutoffs, knee deep in the river with a fly caster in your hands. Oh-Yeh!!!!

Love always,

this reminds me so much of my grandfather and my uncle.  they were the ones that taught me to fish, while in so doing taught me more life lessons about when to hold on, when to pull back, when to wait patiently, and above all to laugh.

Hi Brad,

I am glad that this poem spoke to you.  That's a wonderful thing to hear.  I was playing with Bob K's challenge in the Alley and thinking about how much I love to fish.  I was playing with cadence and discriptions mostly.

Thank you.

having a day of stream-fun, not caring whether or not you caught anything beyond sun-rays....and I really enjoyed your sun imagery!

ali-san..white girl fishing sounds kinda sexy..can you say beaver in here?

I usually stop off at the SPCA and pick up a few cats for bait with I go out to the islands on the Makya Hurl..it is a 31 footer that sleeps 25 if they get drunk enough..the first mate, (Julie) and I got divorced 20 years ago..she is known for her fish tacos..and being able to spit Redman into a long neck from 20 feet away...

Now this is what I would call romantic fishing, dear Alison! (but being oversensitive ever since I was a little girl watching fishermen at the lake, I am glad you didn't catch any fish, as I can't see them struggling in the air and die ... I do eat them though   ... such incongruence!)
Incredibly well done, girl!
