This needs a lot of work, I'm sure, only spent like fifteen minutes on it.  Let me know what you think....

I see her, so tiny and beautiful,
black fur, pink tongue,
the small beginning of man’s best friend
a dark bundle of love.

I see her, less tiny, but still beautiful,
romping around in the yard,
wrestling, teasing, playing
this is how it should be.

I see her, resting, sleeping,
chew-toys scattered around,
like fallen soldiers in battle,
I come back to the present.

I see her, on the table at the vet,
a file in one hand, x-rays in another,
they don’t know what’s wrong.
this is not how it should be.

I see her, locked up in the kennel,
four weeks of rest, they say,
maybe it will get better.
maybe not.

I see her, limping around
with pleading eyes
she did not heal. it isn’t better.
Why did it have to be her?

I see her, lying down carefully
much in pain, I can see,
Will surgery work to heal?
What will come to be?

I always believe the best poetry comes the quickest, and directly from the soul.

Such as my title 'Opened the tap' was meant to show.

Your poem was fantastic, many prefer to rhyme or to follow a certain syllable rhythm.

Beautifully captured.

Are you saying I should, or that it's good that I didn't.....?

There isn't, but it hurts when things go wrong.

Thanks for replying... it's been awhile.  Unfortunately, she wasn't fine. We couldn't improve her quality of life, so the inevitable was necessary. It was the best thing we could have done for her.

Rileigh,

This is so sad - I hope that you heal and share your love with the other puppy.
