In the dustless world of words a seraglio of woman gather; whispering stories, singing songs, soundlessly laughing at the whims and foibles of life. For a time they are unafraid of love, as easy tears gather with the human sweat of skin. [This message has been edited by Martie (08-02-2009 07:06 PM).] |

I've been gathering words that are not used often, some of them very beautiful both in sound and meaning, and making poems in their honor. The meaning of "seraglio" with thanks to What's the Good Word?" from alphaDictionary.com 1. A part of a Turkish palace in the days of the Ottoman Empire where wives and concubines were secluded or confined; a lavish harem. 2. The palace of a Turkish sultan, especially the one in Istanbul. 3. A place of confinement (a bit archaic). |

A stark change in mood from the first stanza to the closing one. Acutely ~ yet deftly ~ done! Thanks for refreshing my mind about what a seraglio is. It's nice to see you posting again in pipland's garden, Martie Flowers. Linda |

I am always learning something new from you, Martie, and looking this up I saw there was a 2000 movie of the same name and a book also... M |

Mmmmm Martie you almost make me want to stay around. As Meg says, this is wayy cool, lol. I'd be inclined to lose the "ruthless" maybe, but otherwise no nits at all. |

quote: That is the joyful part of the seraglio, as you so beautifully say. They surely try to uplift each other in this way. It is still a golden cage, where no one can really be happy. Very profound and captivating. Again let me repeat that you had a great idea of letting these words inspire you. Love and hugs. Margherita |

You performed a wow... gracefully. Much in imagery, little on word play. A great poem! And yes, your title name/word is beautiful in its sound. |
