You can see it in his eyes
It seeps from his to yours
Like a haunting of his own
The pain strips him to a corpse

You look for but a second
And already you’re drawn in
His eyes narrate the stories
That have worn his spirit thin.

You try to look away
Forget what you have seen
The tortured soul of this boy-
This boy of just eighteen.

You want to try and help
But you don’t know where to start
There’s a line of failures before you
Who couldn’t heal his heart.

You feel yourself breaking
As the walls begin to fall
His crying out for help
But afraid of looking small

You can see it on his face
His past won’t let him rest
The scars from his childhood
Have this boy possessed

You don’t know what to do
So you sit and hold him tight
You know you can’t make it disappear
But you’ll stay and help him fight.

Inside this exterior, over which the eye might have roved there was the record of a pulsing life, which had learnt too well for its years – Thomas Har
