Waiting

for their children,
as if somehow
forgotten,
lost along the way
where the track
branched into two
and love
no matter how strong
crumbled under
the burden of life,
until she couldn't carry it
anymore.

Did she weep?

Or cry out in anguish
as he forgot?

How he forgot
that life is for the young.
