Lead me down to depths of darkness No sound my foot will make Guide me through the twisting tunnels Along the path I take. It's cold down here the condensation Clings to walls of caves I have to face where I am going It's hard now to be brave. Ever deeper, down I go Ever deeper still I try to stop and fight the urge But I just don't have the will. Something draws me deeper down When will this journey end? I can't see where I'm going As I approach another bend. Before me runs a deep black stream With not a bridge that spans Charon he's the boatman Now in front of me he stands. He holds out a bony hand Showing muscle mostly gone He's asking for the obolus To cross the Acheron. The ancients place the obolus Under the tongues of the dead If you have no fare to pay It's a waiting game instead. You have to stand 100 years On Acheron's bank you be Then Charon he comes over And ferries you for free. The aged boatman's skiff is old And worms have eaten deep Once you place your foot on board The skiff begins to seep. The stream is like no other It is dark as dark as Hell Charon he is coming And he's ringing out his bell. when in deep water become a diver |

Well, I think I traveled pretty far for sitting in my chair! You definitely set the tone, love the use of mythology, even though I'm less familiar with some of the finer details of all of it. Chilling, yet evocative of a powerful internal journey. Well done. Regards, Novus_Os |
