A friend is going through a rough detox right now. So I thought I would write about it.

Euphoria is flowing...
The telephone is screaming,
the trembling hands can’t focus.
A feeling worse than God's wrath with the Locusts!!!

The sixth gate of hell is the syringe
The sight of life slipping makes me cringe
a shaman that hates man, a séance of the sane
when Sirens sing in the 'City of Angels'

Midnight caresses the rooftops at light speed
it barters against shadows without needs.
Gave up the option to experience college.
Rolled a zigzag, smoked away all knowledge

The rights of evil agents are to preserve presence
and supply the social loss of humanity in a moment
and forge the disintegration of a soul without guidance
helpless become hopeless and hopeless becomes despair

Yet out of despair, life has a chance to find hope.
Acceptance is the ability to see you don’t need dope
Sadness and fear will always fall
Hope and happiness will always remain to install

Acceptance is the wisdom to say
"I need help and stand from a crawl"
The life of an addict,
the unthinkable life without addiction

The center of the soul,
the burning hot realization
when one longs for death,
When one wants to cease their breath.

A neighbor, a parent, a friend
A godsend wrapped in substance.
a flame sparking relief
from the cotton on a spoon.

Infectious white-lines in reflection,
the beautiful nature in which it lays.
These words come from the darkest place,
no surrender or defeat for the Human race.

The power of absolute healing contained in a needle,
simply captivates the redness of the eye!
Starlit sky, the clouds drift.
The shakes form from within when
the cold sweat causes the population to shift

An addict’s eternal dance with demons cause
most to falter, yet never cross the line.
Even though the ignorance is present,
the silent scream of desperation needs love.

Who can carry such a heavy load?
defeating our demons, is beautiful to behold
the irritability never relents
From self-inflicted addiction, to a holy premonition

Divine intervention or legal prevention?
A drug promises salvation.
Euphoria in a blink of an eye.
But when trust enters the heart,
one starts to feel alive.

Very vivid, powerful. I am so thankful that I have never had an addiction.  Thanks for sharing.

TY def, this poem is IT - your words describe the fight with incredible accuracy and detail. I am in recovery and I don't ever want to go thru that again....but I find it hard sometimes, even after 27 mo clean.  P

Midnight caresses the rooftops at light speed
it barters against shadows without needs.
Gave up the option to experience college.
Rolled a zigzag, smoked away all knowledge
-- Definitely my favorite, something about that first line

Yet out of despair, life has a chance to find hope.
Acceptance is the ability to see you don’t need dope
-- I'm very impressed how you made a completely negative addiction and ordeal, and kept the poem positive and with a sense of hope not just at the end, but throughout the entire piece.
