               The Confession

Bruno Renaldo an Italian man showing his age,
Went to his local church this day for confession,
When the Priest said  ‘what can I do for you my son,?
With all the sincerity that comes with his holy profession.

Father please forgive me for I’m afraid I have sinned,
In the war, Nova, a beautiful Jewish girl knocked on my door,
She was terrified that she would be caught by the Nazis
And begged me to hide her, a plea that I could not ignore.

So being a compassionate man Father I hid her up in my attic
And prayed to the good Lord that she would be as safe as my cat,
The Priest said that was a wonderful thing that you done
And there’s certainly no need to make a confession for that.

I’m afraid there is more Father; she repaid me with sexual favors,
Usually several times a week and sometimes twice on Sunday,
The Priest answered by saying that it was a long time ago
And you placed yourselves in great danger for your loving display.

Two people under those circumstances can easily succumb
To the weakness of the flesh tho’ to avoid it you have striven,
However if you are truly sorry for what you have done,
I am sure our good Lord will say you are totally forgiven.

Oh thank you father that is a great load off my mind,
There is one more question that I would like to ask about Nova,
‘And what might that be,’ said the Priest with concern,
Do you think I should tell her that the war is now over?

More smiles from you, dear Lindsay! One rare consequence of the war that brought joy to the senses!

Very well written with your usual mastery.

In great appreciation to Marge, Margherita, Linda, Paul and Helen, I'm so glad that you all had a bit of a chuckle for we all feel a lot better when we laugh, and Paul I have heard it said that all good things come to an end, and I think he should be well satisfied by now. God bless you all
