Enlightenment? |

In this year of traumatic global climate change, long before the arrival of an anguished Autumn, ancient life secrets stored in diverse flora and fauna will disappear. Lifeless leaves will fall from despondent branches, whispering ominous warnings few humans seem willing to acknowledge. Many feathered species ride the leading edge of a deadly wind, on the verge of extinction, while amphibians, fish disappear along with vertebrates and reptiles daily. Healthy habitats are vanishing for most of Gaia’s inhabitants, and endangered species have begun to succumb in record numbers. Once gone from Earth, (EXTINCTION is FOREVER) so too, will a myriad of truths humans supposedly seek. Enlightenment is just another buzz word. |

I like the whole poem but I especially like the flat statement at the end because it's stings of the truth. ·´~`·»Garapan«·´~`· |

Thanks, xGx, for reading and commenting. Truth does sting sometimes, doesn't it? |

This is serious business. Earth has experienced 5 known mass extinctions in its history. In the third mass extinction event, 245 million years ago, 90% of all species vanished. We are currently in the midst of a sixth extinction event, "losing something on the order of 30,000 species per year." |

Eric, Scoff, Uriah, Vandana...thank you for commenting. Yes, scoff, this is serious. It seems we are witnessing the end of 'our' time on Gaia. Thank you so much, for the link to the Sixth Extinction, by paleontologist Dr Niles Eldredge. |

Yes, how proud we should be that we are the dominant specie of the planet. Too bad we are so flawed, as we can't control our own greed. Greed that takes over any other common sense of compassion, and survival. Well let me see, will mother earth be better off without us? Hmmm? Now that's a tough one isn't it, not. Too bad the dinosaurs, and other ancient species weren't as smart as us. They only lived on for millions and millions of years with no adverse affects to the habitat as a whole. Thanks as always Kacy. How unimaginably sad to see this happening in, our, own lifetime, and especially, our children's. Rich |

I am glad a few intrepid souls, such as this fine author, are still willing to give a 'voice' [via effectively hard-hitting and timely 'realism'] to 'Nature' and her most helpless ones!... too bad that the typical 'powers that be' [particularly in the "Runaway American Dream"] are too redundantly (psychologically) deaf, blind, and stupid to 'see' or 'listen'] Applause for this 'penning'! |

Thank you for being a voice in the wilderness, Kacy. Rich is right, we are distroying ourselves with greed and hunger for power. I think the time is coming when Gaia will take care of the problem in her own way. Ida |

Hi Midnitesun, this is a very serious and thought provoking poem indeed. I better get started for searching another planet soon before humans get into that list of extinction. Prasad "Hardwork pays in the long run" |

Unfortunately, you speak many truths. Gaia is upset ~ and it is very understandable! Personally, I believe that being on the path to "Enlightenment" is at least a step in the right direction to help redirect mankind from this dangerous path that we are on. Those who claim to be enlightened should put their words into action and "walk the talk". Another fine write!!! Love & Light, Linda |

Thank you, dear Kacy, for stirring the consciousness within us with your powerful write ... to change the course of things it will take an immense act of faith by all the users of Gaia's resources. To speak out will keep the awareness alive and allow greater impact. Love, Margherita |

perhaps an antonym needs to be 'invented' [to adequately describe the 'environmental (and intellectual) 'impact' of the "Runaway American Dream"]...maybe 'endarklingment' or endarkenment' would suffice?! continued applause for this 'penning'! |

kaile? well if 'enlightenment' truly enlightens, then environmentally negative behaviors will change to positive ones (for Gaia and all her inhabitants), right? Thank you, m'friend, for your time and feedback! |

Maybe we are the "Lifeless leaves [that] will fall" and fertilize the earth with our demise. Thanks for posting this interesting poem. poetry podcasts, blogs and photopoems at URL= http://anthonyarmstrong.ca |
