Planting flowers in a field of stones where deer and other wildlife roam this sanctuary freely, having no fear of those whose names appear on the stones. On any given holiday, many kneel over graves to honor their loved ones with tears and bouquets. When the day is done Rose Hills cemetery is covered with flowers that actually serve a purpose. For the deer are waiting for us to deposit our flowers and leave. Rose Hills... High above the valley, just below the blue of heaven, Where mourners come to grieve for those who are not there and feed the deer, who enjoy some fine dining before the flowers are taken away. Yo dear Ida, What a nice thought. There is always wildlife around cemeteries. I remember an old cemetery near my uncle’s farm that had an old bronze monument with a little open door. That was where snakes would go to shed their skins in spring. Bobby |

This poem has been a bit of a work in progress and still doesn't exactly work for me. Ida |

Oh I think it works out beautifully. I can see the mourners bringing their flowers to honor their loved ones and the deer watching in the background. But I am sure no one minds that the flowers are not left to wilt. My son would be pleased to know he is still feeding the deer. Lovely writing. Joyce |

Lovely post Ida but it is a wonderful thing that the flowers serve two purposes, one as a token of love for those who have passed away and a tasty morcel for the deer. Love Lindsay |

Your poem is lovely just the way it is, there is a quiet peacefulness in the air. I think you've gathered your thoughts beautifully, Ida. |

Ida, I love this. Life does go on, doesn't it. I love graveyards too. When I was little it was a joke that I would drag my family to them at every opporturnity. I was my parent's little ghoul. I just loved them. A |

You would love Rose Hills, Alison. It is probably the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen. Beautiful rose gardens and acres of rolling green hills surounded by many acres of hills covered with brush and trees. All kinds of wildlife. I am there quite often because my mother, my husband, my son, my daughter and my nephew are there. Sometimes we take the kids just to see the deer. They are really quite tame and they love flowers especially roses. Ida [This message has been edited by Marchmadness (08-03-2008 05:08 AM).] |

I agreed with others, wonderful write. Deer’s are such humble creatures, so are humans in the grave. I am scared of graveyards though. Prasad "Hardwork pays in the long run" |

I enjoy reading about graveyards, even when they aren't used for a dark purpose, just simple, truthfull experiences. |

Dear Ida, you painted such a serene, peaceful picture of this cemetery that I think it is a wonderful place to be put to rest. Deers and cemetery ... you made me think of my hometown. Love and hugs, dear Poetess. Margherita |
