Yellow Lights Ah summer, I love you you treat me like an ice cream cone you fill me up with sweetness and a warm feeling in my bones and I'm finally admitting I've got love to atone for take down the noose hanging by the door I don't think I'll need it gimme any challenge, I'll beat it I believe it, now Yellow lights, please don't turn red tonight I'm cautious about this auspicious moment in time I'm finding things in this night I can call all mine Oh city, take my hand, make me understand the traffic lights and the beating pulse of the world with their heads in the sand waiting for the future to unfurl But that scene isn't for me tonight Creating is hard, erasing is easy it's like being born is boring and dying is fun these lessons I've learned too well so every red evening, when the day is done, I'll be finger painting the sky images of wars I've never won for you girls all around the world, here's the good news I'm feeling so much better don't need an umbrella, I love this weather it's just like when I met her Yellow lights bathing me in my bed tonight playing my guitar, wondering where you are now I'm feeling like a broken satellite and how Oh city, you're all I've got to pull me through and the traffic tonight is thick like the blood in me you should be gone, I don't blame you but I feel okay as long as there's still some good in me And I'm counting on this feeling tonight "How do the angels get to sleep, when the devil leaves the porchlight on?" -- Tom Waits, 'Mr. Siegal' |
