it's raining here on a sunny day
or one they said 'twoud be
when outside chores are banned
by nature's own decree

when cool is warmth in other lands
but in the south it's cold
when saturday's stolen subtly
no relief can we behold

october's plans are now mislaid
no leaves to rake, no limbs to burn
the yard today looks like yesterday
no busy work can now be done

with mower silent and rakes put down
its time to nap and hear the sound

of nature's sweetest cry
of the snores of time
as it slips softly by

This is so great.  I am painting inside, and repairing a shed, cutting on the porch!
Michigan actually has two seasons...winter and repair ~Grin.
Oh, but the lovely sounds of autumn in the rain, that's worth cozying up to!

I miss the days of Chicago-land living...of lake effect snow and the smell of street salt.  Took my car to the shop last week (now living in the South) and the mechanic turned to me and said, (sans accent)"ya brought this down from the north, eh?"  After I asked how he knew, he said it was from the road salt rusting everything.  I miss the road salt.

Oh, and thanks for commenting.

Steaven, you are such a lovely poetess. I highly appreciate the gift of your writing ability.

I would miss our invigorating Octobers if I were to move down south. Mind you, it would be a lot less work ~ with the not having to rake up the falling leaves!

Sending an autumnal hug from up here in Canada,
Linda

Linda,
While I'm never one to critique a comment, I must set one minor thing straight--I could never be a poetess, for I am a guy.  I do, however, count that high praise.  Hope that I will someday overcome my man-ness (well, not really...not looking forward to singing "I feel pretty, oh,so pretty" just yet.

Ida, that it was...cleared off just in time to go to the auction that evening, pick up a few things, and still make it back for a late evening meeting...

thanks for reading and commenting
