The old ways are dying, or that's what they say- And nobody cares for the Cowboy way. But I don't believe it! Not for a minute- For there's too many cowboys, who are still living in it. Men, and some women, who still believe in work, And do more than their share, and their chores never shirk. They don't want a handout, just work they can do... If they can do it a horseback, that's best, it is true. Government subsidies, make them want to spit- They've bought off our pride, made our folks want to quit- When you're paid to do nothin', that's just what you do_ When the people get lazy, a country is through. Now I'm crowding sixty, but friend I'm no bum... I scoff at your handouts, not grovel, like some. I'd go back to work at the drop of a hat... I'd prob'ly sleep better, lose some of this fat: There are some of us left, in these liberal days- Who long for the past and those Cowboy Ways. |

Yo Gunslinger, I'm past 70, and a skinny as a rail LIBERAL. You know, something like John Kerry, or Barack Obama. I'm skinny because I remember the days when I used to get my meals out of other people garbage cans when I was a kid. Why are all consevatives so fat? Is it the diet, or just too much grub? Perhaps they just want to make sure no one else gets a share! Oink! Bobby [This message has been edited by Robert E. Jordan (07-25-2008 10:21 PM).] |

I liked the true grit gist of this, gunslinger. Don't really think it has anything to do with age or weight, the message goes a lot deeper than that, that is if a person can grasp it before it goes over their head. Good on ya, cowboy~ |

Yo BluesSerenade by the seaside, It has everything to do with weight. Look at the conservative idol Rush Limbaugh, what a porker. He’s a perfect example of conservative, selfish, overindulgence. As far as something going over my head, that won't happen. I've been to school, and graduated, both from the school of hard knocks, and the Ivy League. The Wild West may be past and gone but there are still plenty of us who love the old stories and poetry and earn our livings by the sweat of our brow or the use of our brains, not by handouts. The work ethic is not dead. Joyce |

XGarapanX says: "Cowboys make great barbeque!" Indeed they do. They're nice, juicy, and tender. Sorry XGarapanX, I couldn't resist the theft. Bobby |

Joyce, The hatred that the well to do have for the poor never ceases to amaze me. You'd think it would be the other way around. Bobby |

You remind me of my gang of quarters and donkeys. How I loved rising with the sun to put them out to pasture with some fresh hay, and muck out the stalls while listening to books on tape. I miss the sweet smell of manure and how slim and strong I was. We are so much better off when a bit of honest work is part of our life ethic! A Canadian cheer for some southern liberals! Git er done! I do like this post!!! Lynda |

Robert. I am a Democrat. I have voted Democratic all of my life. I think FDR was the greatest president ever. I do not like Rush Limbaugh. Why do you keep slamming me? I do believe in honest work because I am a product of the age when you if you didn't work you starved. I have a very limited budget for charity but I have one and have money taken out every month for that purpose. Joyce |

Joyce, what gives you the idea I don't believe in honest work. I've worked all my life. I'm Felix, remember? Why do you think I was slamming you? I wasn't talking about you at all. I'm glad you're as devoted to FDR as I am. Bobby [This message has been edited by Robert E. Jordan (07-26-2008 07:36 PM).] |

I have contemplated what I wrote and maybe I am obtuse, but, for the life of me... I still don't understand your ire, Robert. To the best of my knowledge I have never attacked anyone, or anything with my poetry. However... whatever floats your boat, friend. |
