Complete Devotion

You took a heart as hard as rock
You managed to cut right through
Turning it into nothing but mush
That is when I had fallen for you

Love was such a splendid thing
I had never felt such an emotion
As I had felt when I was with you
You had my complete devotion

With you, the world was so perfect
I never would have even thought
It would someday come to an end
Now, my heart is no longer that soft

There is no doubt in my mind that
This heart will always belong to you
Ever to this day, my heart hurts me
It seems it will always feel blue

Once in a while I feel a tear in my eye
Then, I feel so much anger toward you
For the pain you left me with inside
Because, I  thought your love was true

I would always tell myself each time
Just hang on for a little bit longer
After all, tomorrow is another day
But, it never did get any better

2008

Dear Sue, love that ends always hurts and every now and then, like you say, a tear is shed. But life goes on and your heart is able to love again, don't doubt.

Beautifully melancholic.

Love,
Margherita

Time truly can heal a broken heart. ~ It has mine. I subscribe to the notion that "It is better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all."

~ and it would appear that you loved and had been loved, deeply.

Very expressive write.

Sending a warm, comforting hug,
Linda

Thank you all for reading and replying. Once in a while, all of that darn pain comes back, again. Oh, how I hate that.

It's amazing how someone we love can systematically destroy what is good until one has to leave and move on.  Where does that love go?  I think into poetry.

poddarku, think you for reading and replying.

Alison, I use to ask myself that question. Being as determined as I am, it took me a long time, before I got to that point. I hung, as long as I could (longer that I should have). That is a pain I never want to feel again.
