Do not speak

Today, my heart
lacks the patience
needed to bear
the blather

Today, this body
can barely block
the cougar that
walks beside me.

Do not speak
to me today
of your greening.

Your wilderness
is a parking lot
with no lines painted

Today, the trees fell.
The swamp lies open.
Both it and the signals
of Tsul'Kalu are silent.

Your eyes and ears
cannot miss what they
have not seen or heard.

Tonight,
there will be
no knocking.
Today, I mourn

If you are lucky
(knock on wood)
a day will never come
when he feels forced
to knock upon the
encroacher's door.

But for now...
He will find another place
and I again will find that place
and he and I will speak again

But you...

do not speak

Do not speak
to me today

When you and I
know that you are
fearful of grass stains...

Do not speak to me
of your greening

Larry - I guess the fact that I don't really understand this is a lack on my part - am too simple no doubt - but I did read it a few times and sort of know what I think. Oh, and isn't that profound - "sort of know what I think" - Whew!

Interesting write, Larry.
Elawe'i! is the Cherokee word for Quiet!
If Tsul Kalu is the legendary hunting God, my take on this piece is that it's about the 'rape' of the environment, and the silliness of talking about modern pop culture's new-found 'green' trends?

with no lines painted"

you've put a number of things in perspective so well...thank you for sharing
