in the shadows

In early morning,
most often unexpectantly,
when my soul stirs hard about the day,
only half awake,
without intent
I miss you
wrapped around me as we share your dreams.
I am here,
you are there,
how many hundred miles and years
separate our lives?
I don't care.
When I'm alone,
when I feel you,
hold your scent within me
as I breathe,
when I taste you
in memory shadows
half awake
before ache of dawn,
I am there
with you;
never would I choose to impose,
never to think within a conscious thought
to ask for you to join me
in awareness,
unexpected,
unintended,
yet I feel you
by your heat of skin,
tremble of your love,
your need unending,
I don't call in dream states
to seek
when your lust could feed me,
to join you
to braid peace within you;
then to sleep,
just like a man
I know,
I am inside you
within your soul
and we are one;
silly,
yes?
Ego largesse,
stuff of which dreams are made.
Why is it then,
without fail,
do you phone every time
in mornings after,
always
to leave a message
knowing I'm not there,
to ask how I am doing;
you are just curious
of course,
just a polite acquaintance
in passing
to leave an idle message,
really,
knowing I'm not there
to say "hi."
and then move on,
more important steps writ on your dance card,
obviously.
Acceptance is a mark of age;
I stopped wondering
and teasing out errant threads
in this unraveled mystery
too many years ago.

I feel this poem.  It's one that will linger and I am saving it.

Thank you.

Feeling this
underneath layers
of life-skin.

You two could inspire a rock! ((^*)) Both poems were absolutely moving and beautifully done.  However, having felt the ache within, I shall spend the day remembering I suppose.

I certainly can't address you as "icebox" after reading your poem.  Charly, this is magnificent and, no, it's not silly.  It is perhaps an unseen reality - a man knows what he knows.

I'm going to close my eyes and just breathe this in for awhile.

You are such a fabulous poet, Sir~  and I am deeply moved by your words.
