It’s the thinking twice that makes love go
into the archives of the old
for the brain like a soldier
fires bullets at the heart
and does connect but also hits
the remaining body parts.

There follows then a slump and fall
that ne’er can overcome it all
and rise triumphant into life
refreshed and renewed.

Now here it is the thinking twice
that re-inflates the heart
and moves the body so, just so,
into the realms of pretence.

There follows then some years and more
of not quite straight and tall
but love injects the back, the legs,
with the memory of it all
until the bent and huddled, bowed,
straightens up again.

Now here again the thinking twice
removes love from out pretence
and deposits her/you/me and them
into a truthful state
where heart now whole but lonely
tries to live again.

There follows then the knowing that
no paradise this thinking twice!

No doubt it depends on the situation, thinking twice is usually considered a wise thing to do ... but oh, the heart's motions should not get altered by thinking too much.

You always write in a thought provoking way, dear Helen. Beautifully done.
