watching you without windows
is like drinking cold water
on those afternoons later
when you could read my mind
easier than your own

and those thoughts were there
with the refrigerator door open
pressing themselves inside
not wanting to be frozen
but wanting just to be cold enough

to slow down into a lifetime
of needing your warm places
and of you knowing the melting too
like the wet look of your lips
when you smiled back at my eyes

and asked me to look through you again
