Sundays... My programs were on the air. I settled into that big, overstuffed chair in front of the radio. "The Shadow" was my favorite show. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?" "The Shadow knows." Invisible, invincible, mysterious, never seen, only heard. Ah... the magic of the spoken word. And then one day at Mason's store I saw something I had never seen before, I saw "The Shadow" on a television set. I remember the disappointment yet. He was just a man with a moustache in living black and white (obscured by snow) My Sundays were never the same because then I knew... "The Shadow" didn't know. Love it, Ida! Like finding out that Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy don't exist. - Owl |

I was about 6 or 7 when my favorite show was ruined by television. 1952, I believe. Ida |

Dear Ida, this is about a technological evolution that really changed everything and I do understand what you mean, I also remember when we sat around the radio, my mother knitting or mending some socks ... everybody highly concentrated on imagining the stories in the brightest colors ... We didn't get a tv for quite a long time after it was invented. But no regrets! Great job and thank you for the memories. Love, Margherita "Love is the One who masters all things; |

Dear Ida, you brought back so many memories with this post. A vivid imagination is a great attribute to have. I remember I was at a very early age when I found out that there was no Santa and promptly told mum and dad. A few years down the track I realised what an idiot I had been. I should have believed in Santa till I was a teenager, I might have got more presents. Great post Ida. love Lindsay |
