Soul dancing

***

Barefoot and dressed
in sparks of moonlight,
we danced the sirtaki dance*
for unperceived hours,
lost in the moment’s trance,
with the approval of the night.
The first steps timid and slow,
with furtively touching eyes,
whispers of love and smiles.

Faster and faster then we flew
over shores never seen before,
peeking into heaven’s doors,
as we attuned body and soul
to the spirit freed by the sound,
being enraptured music on our own,
skin glistening, blessing the ground,
as if we were love’s waterfall.

Till we shed one by one
all the troubles and the sorrows
that had haunted us for years
in rivers ofcleansing tears.
Finally, renewed and refreshed,
filled with gratitude and grace
we fell into dawn’s open arms
and welcomed the new day
with our all encompassing
infinitely thriving
universal embrace.

Hello Margherita, I can feel the fusion between the people and the music, I can feel the blessed night where it took place and it recalls me that life is everywhere around us in little things that we wrongly consider sometimes as insignifiant....I feel while reading your poem that life is a gift and I'm glad you shared this beautiful poem...

Gooday, girlfriend!

"in rivers of cleansing tears.
Finally, renewed and refreshed,
filled with gratitude and grace

And yes, I do recall that dancing scene!
Thanks for the link!

Your mind must be a beautiful place to be, Margharita. I have often thought that people create their own reality. Lucky you.

Margherita, with your beautiful poem, you took me back many years.  From the age of 8 I have been passionate about Ancient Greece (and Egypt).  I went to University at the advanced age of 32 and I majored in Classical Civilisation and French.  In my first year at University I went on a Greek tour with 2 of my lecturers and a group of other people.  Before I arrived in Greece, my only interest was Ancient Greece, but when I arrived I fell passionately in love with modern Greece as well.  Nobody had told me about the donkeys and the donkeys and the DONKEYS - or the addictive Greek music and dancing.  I hugged every donkey I came across - and the driver of our bus started another young woman and I off in every group of Greek dancers we came across and both of us almost had to be dragged away when the group was leaving. The driver of the bus gave a copy of the tape that he had played continuously in the bus to one of my lecturers, and I got a copy from him  and I played it over and over again - even more than the bus driver played it on the bus.  Let me stop right now, otherwise I will go on all night.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for a beautiful poem and for reviving a million wonderful memories - oh, and the Zorba the Greek youtube video too.

Margherita

See what you have done? You have written a breathtaking poem and revived Greek dancing at the same time. Bravo!

Thank you dear Kate, I enjoyed your visit here! We can dance a sirtaki even in the kitchen and close the eyes and "transfer" to a Greek island ... and express our gratitude for life's gifts.

Love and welcome back hugs.
