A lot of people wonder why- I just dropped out of sight. I used to get around a lot... And had a lot of fights- I probably hurt some people No doubt, a few have cried. Some, maybe even wonder, If I went away and died. But I guess it may have been the years It may have been the miles. It may have been the heartaches- That kind of crimped my style. It may have been, I realized- Life's far too short to waste... It's meant to be enjoyed- So I thought I'd stop and taste... The pleasure of a sunset On the broad West Texas plains. The beauty of the turning leaves- The fragrance when it rains. The love of raising children... Some peace instead of strife- The comfort of a rocking chair, In the twilight of my life. |

Glad you're sharing your poetry in the twilight too! I really enjoyed this. It was like a friendly reminder to me that I have to "stop and taste"! |

Gunslinger, This is excellent poetic work. That rocking chair agrees with you. Keep at it. I have a rocking chair too. For some reason I don't use it much anymore. You poem made me think about it. Easy and smooth. Bobby |

Wonderful, truly wonderful feelings flow through your words ... and yes wisdom too. To slow down a little bit in order to TASTE life is important. But also our human relationships need always attention, I wish I could bring love and warmth to more people than I can actually reach out to, but it is important to find the balance between the reaching out and the reaching deep within. Greatly enjoyed. love Margherita |

I love this! I think it is my favourite of yours - in spite of there not being a single horse in sight! It is good to see you happier. - Owl |

John...Very very good poem. I find myself slowing down as you to enjoy those rocking chair and porch swing days. The only thing missing in your poem is a saddle on the porch rail as a reminder to your younger days and memories that will last you forever...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Paul, didn't you see, the saddle is there - and oh, that wonderful smell of the leather! John just didn't mention it! Smiles. - Owl |

Gunslinger, this is a real masterpiece that is most enjoyable to read. It tells a story that most older people can relate to. It certainly pays to stop now and again to smell the roses as we traverse lifes path. very much enjoyed. Lindsay |
