it was always sunday there
next door to our windows
you were inside yours
I was outside mine
but our eyes touched

like the fingers of an echo
entering gloves the first time
slowly exploring the taste
of just knowing we both were
looking back through the invisible

I was surprised at your lips
when they spoke to me
just out of the blue words
like from a mona lisa fence
of white teeth with gated smile

and then you laughed girlish
without your woman hands on
almost fragile glass sided
and you said I was comfortable
which was better than love boots

so you could just tiptoe deeper
