Bubbling
Spitting
Molten heart of rock

Pressure
Building
Strive against the block

Heat
Increasing
Hear the ticking of the clock

Escape
Erupting
Krakatoa still in shock

I don't know where this came from ... wrote it back in 2000.
A little bit of history

Remember the three R's:
Respect for yourself.
Respect for others.
Responsibility for all your actions.

Hi there. Don't quite know how to say your name ... But ...
I understand that
When Krak erupted in 1883, it was so remote from the rest of the world that for a long time little of the disaster was known.  There were no telegraph lines left intact after the eruption and communication with the rest of the world was almost nonexistent.
But there was an overwhelming demand for news, and over the next few days and weeks a series of newspaper stories appeared in America chronicling the tragedy, social dislocation and loss of life, and I think simonies that followed.
Years later it was revealed that these stories were entirely made up by one writer who just had an imagination so vivid as to suggest actual observations and gripping, first hand accounts of witnesses, tales of tragedy and heroism and greed and neglect the full range of  human reactions to this.  Including the inevitable finger-pointing:  Why did this happen? Why was this or that done or not done?  why was there such a loss of life?  And the mourning and the grieving and the mourning ... and such was the demand for news that the stories were at least in the beginning, were entirely concocted.
Of course this was an age before 24-7 live television news and relay satellites, or the internet, etc.
that's what reading this reminded me of.

The tale of Krakatoa has long been a personal favorite. Loved the poem.

Thanks everyone!

Since I learned of Krakatoa when I was little, I've remembered the date that it happened, because August 27th is my mother's birthday

Now, I'm not in any way suggesting that my mother has a volcanic nature...
