i was thinking about believing in God, in magic and in me not all lumped together i was thinking about God and my need to believe in a higher power and if I do believe in such a thing then I remembered my sister when I was a little girl i asked her how God knew if we went to heaven or hell and she knew (like she knew everything) she told me about the shelves in heaven with piggy banks in a line. every person had two piggy banks with their names on them one also said “good” and one said “bad” i understood when she explained that when i was good, God put a penny in my good bank and when i was bad, He put a penny in my bad bank. that’s a concept a five year old can understand she went on to say when i die, God will count the pennies in both banks and that will determine if i go to heaven or hell i accepted her explanation, she is my sister and she is very smart – and years later i gain comfort when i think of this and i know that there is always hope and i control where i go i know that i can choose to be good and have lots more good pennies than bad ones this I know and this i believe i was thinking about magic and my need to believe that it exists and i do believe in magic then i remembered my other sister taught me about fairies she told me stories about how they dance in the woods under the moonlight on crisp, clear nights we made a store for them to shop at (fairies never have to pay) and we gathered small things, like thimbles and empty spools of thread and doll house furniture, placing them on a wide plank between two sturdy roots and we waited for night to fall and dawn to break before returning and seeing that fairies had shopped they carefully chose what i considered the best items and i never saw them again; fairies never return merchandise. they are not hard to please this i know and this i believe i was thinking about me and my need to believe in myself and i do believe in me then i remembered i taught myself to dream when i discovered words i found joy in appreciating the vocabulary i have and i discovered a talent in putting words together people say i have a gift; maybe, i do gifts are always welcome on my life and i take care of the gifts given me i cherish them and love them i was thinking about this and i believe that i cherish and love me --- Alison |

To love oneself is actually a very generous act because if you love yourself you behave in a way that causes others to love you as well. (in my humble opinion). How lucky you were to have sisters and how lucky they were to have you to write this lovely poem about them. Ida |

Wow. What a medley of things to believe in. I have a problem with believing in faeries, though. If they truly are so small and difficult to detect I can only imagine I have sat upon a few unfortunates with my bumbling, oafish human self. Better to think they aren't there, or I shall die of guilt. ·´~`·»Garapan«·´~`· |

Echoing Yann, thank you God for Alison for many, many reasons, but right at this moment, for this delightful poem. I try never to miss any of your work Alison. I loved this poem - and that is a gross understatement. Garapan, fairies can flit out of the way quicker than a wink, and they would hate you to feel guilty. - Owl |
