we brought our own ladders
to the well that afternoon
not too climb out
but to climb in
and get it all over us

that dark down there
that we always wondered about
and would it feel as good
as the mystery did
of just wondering

I don't know about you now
but I was better after
when I went head first down
and came out the other side
into just more sunlight

like any other place I had been
and suddenly the knowing well
that everything ends well
if we just jump in and make it
the well of our own choosing

well, I guess you know the feeling
