it never was the value of your words
and how they were unraveled really
that made my wondering get wheels

it was more the quiet after
when they were but useless whispers
that anyone could have left around

some empty bedroom playground
when the unwrapping was all done
and there was a new christmas coming

when I was just that old tree again
like the behind the woodshed place
for secrets and pull off the road besides

just to keep the edges of the lawn smooth

"it was more the quiet after
when they were but useless whispers
that anyone could have left around"
This speaks volumes, DS.
With a handful of images,
you paint a sterile shadow that provides
nothing more than fallow ground;
so the road appears fertile by comparison.

I sense a touch of melancholy in this one ... but I would say that I would not imagine you ever as  "JUST the old tree ....". I would see you as the most majestic tree in any forest .

A wonderfully poetic tree of course ...

Love,
Margherita

...but it's the old trees
that hold the most memories...

and still, there's nothing
useless in a whisper

not when it's heard with the heart;

unless it was just "anyone".

D

This poem touches me in a similar manner.  It's like it reaches beyond the words and lingers to touch at unexpected times.

It reads like a beautiful secret, but I think that is part of your style.

Do I need to say that I love this?
