One Quick Blink

Looking in my past at all the regrets I have,
Many have torn me and many still tear.
I’ve come to accept reality we all make mistakes.
What I cannot accept is my fate.

I have the power to change, the power to mold,
Whatever life brings I’ll do what I’m told.
These regrets I may have I won’t repeat,
I have laid everything at your feet.

Looking at the present and all the hopes that I have,
Few have been answered but only one really matters.
I’ve hoped for someone quite like you,
Help me face my fears and conquer defeat.

My hope has been answered and here you are,
Ready to take me very far.
In the present I have changed,
No longer caring what everybody thinks.
I’ve come to realize it all won’t matter
With one quick blink.

Looking towards the future and the chances I will have
To make things right and forever bright.
High school is gone in the blink of an eye,
Many people I know have long since died.

And yet still you are here with me today,
Never faltering in what I know you can do.
Help me through all these mistakes and all these tears,
For with one quick blink this was all last year.

Now you are gone, the Good Lord has taken you away
The best years of my life are but memories now
You soar above on high, looking over me,
Watching over me

No need to watch anymore, my dear angel soaring above
I’ll be with you before too long
With me at your side where I belong
Here I come, I’m on my way home.

Sobering. So true. Even before I read the entire poem I was forced to consider the brevity of life, and also the spark of energy that a persons poetry and art leaves behind in their wake. A last cry before the blink of an eye silences the mind and the voice forever.

Loved this line... "I’ve come to accept reality we all make mistakes.
What I cannot accept is my fate."

I take that to mean that we will all pay a proper price as our fee for learning through folly, and we will all die, but death will find me in a fighting mood.

You are my new hero.

Thanks!  Yea...thats kinda just my philosophy on life.  We're all gonna make mistakes and it's something you have to live with, but what I won't live with is accepting those mistakes.
I'm glad you liked the poem!
