The Flower

He speaks of iced tea and childhood swing sets-
He speaks of love,
And of loss-
He says perfection is a lost cause,
And that even the damaged
Are beautiful-
-For he is imperfect too

And he and I, we laugh
We laugh at you,
Who can ‘define’ beauty
We laugh at you,
Who tries to conform
You, who knows books but will never know the whiplash of sea spray on your back

And I laugh!
At others who know only Science
For I know only what I see!
You are in bondage,
And he and I, we laugh

He spreads his petals wide in laughter
Like wide and luscious lips,
Silently laughing
At those who are bonded
To see only what they can explain-

-Those who say flowers cannot speak-

And he and I, we laugh
And beg to differ!
Must one have tongue to speak?
He speaks of iced tea and childhood swing sets,
And of the freedom you’ll never know-

-For you are held in bondage.-

Interesting concept and point of view.
Don't worry about 'mistakes'....
feel the 'freedom' of 'free' verse.

This is interesting.  I enjoyed it - I think you should keep playing with various styles.  Another thing, if you post on this forum, you might get more feedback if you are stretching to other forms of poetry.

Also, there are some pretty cool lessons in the Poetry Workshop.
