The crowd’s gathered
down by the river,
Delaware Ave,
at two A.M.
Sunday morning.

Angelo’s there
with his hot car,
Felix’s local
mechanic friend’s
supped it up
for the boy,
which was very nice.

He’s got confidence.

The cars are off with a roar,
plowing down the straightaway.

Sally and Felix
are up at the house
trying to sleep.

The noise wakes them up.

They know Angelo’s down there,
but they don’t care—
after all, the kids sixteen,
and earning his own money.

They go back to sleep,
and have a nice rest.

Just as long as Angelo gets back
to wake-up Sunday morning
to go with them to Sunday Mass.

Bobby

At least they had a place to race. Street racing around here can be very dangerous sometimes.

I bet Angelo fell asleep during the Mass, dear Bobby. But then at that age everything is possible it seems.
Sixteen is early for hot cars, here you get the driver's licence only at 18 and still so many young people get involved in accidents because they have no measure.

Thank you for this slice of teenage life. The parental trust is surely a good thing.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks dear Ida,

I've never heard of any accidents down there.  It's really a straight shot, with nothing in the way.  The cars are in good condition.

Thanks dear Margherita,

I'm relating this to my own experience, when you could get a license at sixteen.  I think the age might be higher now.  I don't race anymore, and haven't for fifty some years.

The cars are in good shape, so there are very few accidents.  If there was a problem, you might not hear about it, as the police here (bless their hearts, they do try hard) have more serious fish to fry here in our city.

The mechanics that do the work are skilled, and the cars are in good shape.  The racers don't allow any pikers, i.e. incompetents.

God bless us all.

Bobby
