. Eventually this is all one has of the long strong column sweating down the road. The captain in front with a cane he doesn't need. Sounds of boots, their dusty notes in unison. A short time sergeant staying out of the sun. Watching man by man marching on mile by mile through the tiger hour. John (USMC 69-73, Da Nang 70) . |

This 'write' finely captures a slice (effective impression) of the (all-time) 'everyman' soldier's reality... My father's war (W.W. II) seems to have been one of 'absolute necessity'...sadly, 'military actions' ever since appear to be rather ever-increasingly difficult to 'explain and defend' (particularly current circumstances) from most any perspective... applause for this 'penning!' |
