Regurgitated truths surface
as this nation gathers to honor the past
by watching cars speed on a racetrack
and serving barbequed hot dogs and hamburgers.
I find myself apologizing to the past
for what has become a fashionably ignored fact:
Truth is stranger than Fiction.
This was a once-meaningful phrase
passed down like so much flotsam and jetsom,
while society’s conscience-fabric
tears apart at the seams
lie-by-lie
from megalithic
corporate/governmental seam-rippers,
wherein
Lies= Truth.
But no one really cares
until the price of gas
puts the skids
on the holiday traffic death toll.
At the rate we are evolving,
global peaceful co-existence
will never happen
because we prefer
fantasies and lies
over the fundamental truth;
we humans are ONE living dynamic spirit-force,
not individual stars and stripes
flapping in some Universal breeze.
Happy Memorial Day.

Midnitesun,

This is a well written piece of truth--very good poem.

WOW, Midnitesun! I'm not only impressed with how well you say it all, but... you can write this well at 7:30 in the morning? Wow.

LOL, your comment gave me chuckle, ArtSolstice.
I was wide awake at 6AM (!&*$) had a cup of Yuban in my hand, so this piece just about wrote itself.
Thanks for reading!

an 'important' write!

sadly...somewhere along the way, the
"Runaway American Dream" has devolved
into a corporate mediocracy and embraced
a destructive modis operandi based on
a deeply flawed set of fundamental
equations such as:

‘big’ = better
time = money
change = progress
ends justify all means…
truth is ‘plastic’ (and disposable)

and...I NEVER expected (in my life time) that
people would be dying for reasons even far less
defensible than those behind Nam...(in the wake of
a magnificently exploited mix of half- and non-truths; etc.)

On the day of ‘memorials
and remembrances’…
I would wish that folks
might recall (and mourn?)
what, fundamentally,
my ancestors ‘America’
once was… the all-time
greatest ('revolutionary')
‘experiment’ in participatory
representative democracy of
history (and, quite possibly,
the ‘last best hope’ of mankind)…

applause for this penning!
