Daughter, Sometimes it seems we are at each other's throats Threats to our friendship or we unknowingly boast Our real intent is not to control, bribe or shame Simply to help the other survive in this game. We often become overwhelmed by unfortunate events Testing our resolve, we weather opinions mild or incensed As we grow older our legacy becomes more clear We see personalities and features among those dear. The Lord gave us hope, strength and will to come through He also gives us tools, family, maybe a sick humor too However much is at our disposal to use and appreciate Never allow one's heart to become like an ingrate. It might seem difficult to understand when we feel alone Like one in a billion we reach for affection to be shown Desiring to comfort that solitude felt deep in our heart Leading others is different than being followed at the start. Soon a few of the now jagged edged pieces will fall into place No longer causing hurt or pain but blend and emit grace The more the pieces, the bigger the apparent puzzle Enables bigger visions to imagine not one piece a dunsel. You have qualities like fortitude, smarts and loyalty There's more too underneath like a gem of royalty How you choose to polish these traits demands muster In the end the path you take determines the luster. A well balanced stable of traits is best of use Covers blemishes rather than trying a ruse Accept limitations not a heredity to curse Challenges that benefit once memorized the verse. |

Dear James, this is beautifully written. I see there are some generational conflicts, but you show your love and caring so deeply. My daughter's name is also Sarah and as for her relationship with her father I can see there are similarities I recognize ... Enjoyed this much. Love, Margherita |

The back of my head is showing signs of balding because that is the direction I bend in trying to help my only daughter maintain her bearing upon this uncertain road of life. I do whatever I can to compromise, without stepping outside the circle of what is reasonable. This poem says much to my liking, and it is very well done. Art |
