If I were President, my friends, I'll tell you what I'd do. I'd look hard at this land of ours And make a change or two. I'd make the congress tell me where My hard-earned money went That I should get at 65 If I were President. If I were leader of this land Car salesmen couldn't lie. You'ld get to see the honest price And then decide to buy. Fine print would be in simple words That folks could understand And contracts would be handshakes if I were to rule this land. If I could be the man on top The juries would all go. We'd simply use truth serum to Learn all we need to know. "No contest" pleas would be outlawed... You're guilty or you're not And lawyers wouldn't rob you blind If I were in top spot. If I were Mister Number One Insurances would pay Amounts that they agreed to when You signed your life away. Mechanics wouldn't charge you for The work they hadn't done And guarantees would be upheld If I were Number One. If I were sitting in that chair All crooks would be interred And have to pay the victims for The damages incurred. Congressmen would have to live by Laws that they passed there And pay for their own limousines If I were in that chair. If I were top dog in the pound There wouldn't be parole And prisoners who broke the rules Would wind up in the "hole". Doctors who screwed up their patients Wouldn't be around But would be held responsible If this dog ruled the pound. If I were President...Vienna Sausages would rule And golf would be the only subject Taught in any school. All birds would have to chirp in rhyme And papers only print The news that makes one feel good If I were President.

Michael Mack for President! ~ or Michael Mack for Prime Minister of Canada! I could vote for you if you ran up here!
Enjoyed your poem! You have some great ideas! Who says the top dog has to be practical! lol
btw You wear that handsome, patriotic shirt quite well! As the old adage goes, "You are what you wear!" ~ or is that eat? Oh, deer, if it is the latter, perhaps you could eat your shirt!
Good luck in November's election!

If Balladeer decides to run at least we'd have a choice, instead of special interests' pawns that heed their masters' voice.
A man of vision with great plans which certainly wouldn't hurt. A man of words, instead of "duh?" and hey, check out the shirt!
I think I speak for all of us my old friend Michael Mack, if you indeed decide to run at PiP we've got your back.

Balladeer's my first choice The second John McCain, Cuz if we get stuck with what is left The world will feel the pain.
"Tax the rich-Lose the war" Terrorists laugh it off, Maybe Reverend Wright could be The V.P. of us ALL.
So cast your vote for Balladeer, To lead this great great land, Cuz he would lose that pretty shirt With Hillary's tax plan.

Dear Balladeer,
Earth Angel had the right idea about the politics. I too would back you as Prime Minister of Canada; or the U.K., though, on the Tory ticket. Your poetry is so unlike T. S. Eliot, yet your politics have so much in common: Royalist.
On a less jokey note, I enjoyed your poem and the goofiness of it, and the fun of it. The picture was wonderfully over the top. Talk about wrapping yourself in the flag! Holy cannoli! ("Holy cannolo!" doesn't sound right, does it? Hollow cannolo? Wholly cannoli?, nah).
Yours, BobK.

If I were Lady of the 'Stute I'd have a golden throne And I would have you Balladeer Recite for me alone
But since you're on campaign And have no time for me, then maybe When you become the President Can I be your First Lady?

You offer some truly great ideas, dear Balladeer, I am with you on many of them, I even love the Vienna sausages. For the birds I would choose free verse/song though and the school program should have some other priority like "love and respect for all of humanity and Nature" ... golf would be a wonderful gift as a consequence of the wellbeing of all.
So go for it, you have my support!
Great write!
Love, Margherita

Now you KNOW I love the perfect cadence throughout this gem Michael. Wonderful through and through. Love the repetition tied back in all the right places too!
And ... would I vote for you?
Well, that's super easy! Let's see ... my favorite poetic partner in office??? A resounding YES, I'd say!
Best wishes and big hugs, /Kit

Alison....I accept your vote gratefully!
Earth Angel....prime time? May your eyesight never be restored!!
Roniece....your mmmmmmmm's are music to my ears. Thank you!!
melton....basics are indeed the answer!
Dr. Moose...you having my back is a little unsettling. I'd rather you be where I can keep an eye on you!
Toerag...you got more mileage out of that despicable photo than the oval office carpet got from knee indentations!
William James...well, you all can just right me in..
gilead...thank you for recognizing such leadership!!!!
Robert E. Jordan...you couldn't be more wrong! There were wanted posters of me in the teacher's lounge!
BobK....thank you...I think! I';ve always been able to tell a good tory.
Munda......first lady? Maybe so! I'll e-mail you the date and time of your audition!
Margherita...."love and respect for all of humanity and Nature"? Exactly...GOLF!
Susan...don't worry. I would find another position for you! Don't let that photo scare you. I don't wear that outfit very often....
Kit....and you would be my appointed National Poet Laureate!! I would assign you to rewrite the constitution in rhyme, the way it should be!!

I'd vote for you for sure my friend If your laws would be in rhyme. Those blessed feet, and meter Sentenced out for every crime.
Imagine criminals in jail All playing with their feet If Balladeer were Present Now that would be a treat!
Don't know how I missed this one but I did, and it was my loss, but I found ya.

About American politics I know very little, But with Mr Deer in charge The problems now would wittle.
Fantastic but now makes me realise I've even more to learn......esp as I've been sneaking into classes and sitting at the back for a couple of lessons.

I think the ones who break the law should be sent to the Institute instead of prison. Nurse Cratchet would have a hay day with em......saying nothing about the inmates already there.

Deer darling man, you’d make a wonderful Premier, Prime Minister, or President. The ticket you would run on would be seen as earth shattering, honest and truth and real justice, good grief you simply could not lose.
As Always your writing rocks and makes me wish so much I had even half your talent. I’m supposed to be writing my final essay, but it is very tough going. I could quote you since it is about the search for Authenticity. However my tutor, who is also an American would not accept that You darling man are the real definition of Authenticity.
Oh well back to the salt mine, wish me luck
