One Wish for You Two

The vows you spoke,
    your dreams of hope,
    may linger in your minds still
The love you feel,
    that undeniable appeal,
    hope such emotions always will

Can these words contain,
    all the family’s refrain,
    of our fond happiness for you
Might it be said,
    you can now go ahead,
    since the both of you said ‘I do’.

Love lasts forever,
    trite words are clever,
    and you may laugh at years ahead
But time goes fast,
    never forget the past,
    but forget what others may have said

We only have the knowledge of experience,
    perhaps it will give us a clue
Opinions are many and varied,
    but what counts is what together you do

Good nature in your heart,
    though only a start,
    is given by those who’s love
Will show the way
    that you go through the day,
    give thanks to God above

It’s a pleasure for us,
    that you two are a plus
    and fit together so well
Our love comes to you,
    we know how you’ll do,
    and that it will be quite swell

Forgive the few times,
    some say the wrong lines,
    you may occasionally feel imposed
Look into the words,
    and why it disturbs,
    could it be due to a truth exposed

No malice or hate is thrown your way,
    at times it may seem that it is
Stay to your course, keep pounding the beat,
    some things you’ll never miss

A friendship to share,
    you’re a lovely pair,
    may understanding soon come
When you reach forty-five,
    quite healthy and alive,
    be glad life isn’t over and done

These words aren’t easy,
    and although it’s queasy,
    whether you’re required to do
Those things that you must,
    by gum or by bust,
    you’ve got to be happy with you
