~*~

Where storms once hurled themselves with fierce gusts
dark reflections of a woman went beyond me.
Hours turned into days and years
threatening to break me.

Thrashing to catch my breath
I threw myself overboard to hide my tears
in the wake of my weeping and silent cries.
I shudder to think
I was sinking.

An unnatural descent that would carry over
to places I've never been before.
Floundering in my private nightmare
I hung on for dear life.

How naive I was to think I could take on the elements
and the gravity that was pulling me under
swallowing the emptiness,
consumed by the unkown
and the mystery that lie beneath.

I tremble when I recall the helpless downward spiral
and the irony of icy blue water that left me numb.
I was hanging in the balance
standing so close to the edge
makes me shiver.

That same shoreline is pristine as I remember
the nightmare all but forgotten
in the drift of time I've left it behind
save for the stars
and the moonlit sky.

Breathing deeply
the ocean plays me.
Every wave, a rendition of hope
ever after.
The salt in my wounds
are reminders of the distance
between here and now
because that's all there is.

There is a certain fragile state
of my own affairs
laid bare in the heart of me.
I relish the summer wind
blowing love in all directions.
my heart more brazen perhaps.

I have made my peace.
While my steps are more timid
I am grateful to leave them behind
for someone who has been there,
who may chance to walk
the same silver strand of time,
without regret or recompense.
As fog rises over warm water
living proof
that life is as it was meant to be.
And so I breathe
and count my every blessing.

Oh Bluesy, I was just about to dive in there for a second, but I knew that you had to sink or swim if you were ever going to know that you could survive, and be complete, again. Please, don’t try that again. Even though the sea and the shore belong to you, you, and your spirit, in all ways that are pure, belong to us. I’m glad the waves, brought you home, safely, and that, your life is now, what it was meant to be. I’m so glad to read you once again too. Tonight, I will sleep soundly, rocked by the gentle swells of the lone sea, in my mind.

That a girl. You go Lori! I'm delighted to see you. Missed you tons.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Whoa!  I love this - keep starting at the top and reading again.  There is such a feeling of hope - almost of redemption - in your words.

Welcome back - I hope that you keep sharing with us.

. . . you know, although it’s from a great distance, I always had a  crush on you – your words, your picture,  the tears of your heart – the laughter, when it came . . . and then you were gone. Yet,  I still had memories, and though they were singular, they were real. Not that I went back and re-read your words, or looked at your picture . . . it’s not that kind of a crush.  I have a crush on life, in particular, the souls of humanity, and like any, I favor some above all.  You were always a favorite, and it’s good to read you again, to see laughter in your eyes.

After re-reading this piece, and a few of your newer ones in the archives that I’d missed by not being here . . . well, you really didn’t leave much to say – you covered it all, very nicely.  Besides, I always look forward to your writing – nice or not, but then, when where your pieces ever, not nice.

Peace, my friend – and my heart, as always, wishing you well.

Bluesy, There's so much in your poem that I can relate to although not in the physical sense.  To come out of a spiral and be able to count one's blessings is perhaps the purpose of the spiral.  I'm learning to say "thank you" more often these days.

It's so nice to see you back here and I look forward to reading more from you.  We go back a few years and if not for you I wouldn't be here on these blue pages.  Thank you for that, Bluesy gal.  There are times when pip has been and will probably continue to be a life saver.  Poets (and I'm not yet sure I'm one of those remarkable individuals) hold hands in a wonderful way.  It's a pleasure to take your hand again.

Hugs

Gosh, I'm all emotional now!!  I don't know what to say.  You all make me feel right at home again, and I thank you, sincerely.

jwesley~  It's been a long time since anyone has made me blush. You're too sweet.  I guess my writing is straight from the heart because I don't know any other way.  That isn't always a good thing mind you. The last few years have not been kind. But I'm well aware that my situation is not unique.  Life goes on and I feel lucky.  I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your nice reply.  Thank you~

Hey Susan~  It's good to see your name here, thanks for reading my woe is me poetry~

Helen Dear~ You are certainly one of those remarkable poets, and then some.  I have always admired your style and the emotions that make up your poetry.  It is refreshing, and so often you lift my spirits when I need it most.
You're very special,  lady Sunday~

Hi Margherita~  Thanks for letting me know you were here, and for liking my title.  I read somewhere on these blue pages, that the title and the closing of a poem are very very important things to remember.  Hmmmm, sometimes I forget to remember that.  Many thanks to you~

Maureen~ How does it go, I know that you know what I know....or something like that!  My brain is fuzzy these days.  I am on the mend, and hopefully it will stay that way for a very long time.  Seems like forever since I posted a poem, I've always been a wannabe poet anyway, but hey, it works for me.  Hugs to you, sweet one~

Nice
Have you ever read Joni Mitchell, Niel Finn or Todd Rundgren's stuff?

Dear Mr. Mosey~
Thanks a lot for looking, gentleman friend~

Hey hey, I'm flattered!  Yep I've heard of Joni Mitchell, or did you think she was before my time??  Huh huh?     NOT!  I haven't listened to the other guys much, but I've heard of them. I appreciate you enlightening me.  I'm always looking for a new song to sing, so thanks rad man~  it's great to see you here.

Dixie~ Oh I'll try to keep writing, if my muse would only give me a clue!!
Thanks a lot for reading~

Okay, I come back to reread your poem and you have but yet another wonderful picture of yourself to share. Just like many of us do in our heart, the sun seems to enjoy kissing you as well. But then Bluesy, you would glow, even without that butterscotch tan.

Ok then,  glad you brought that up.  But you didn't have to go and bump me up for goodness sakes.  I was having a bad hair day in the other picture....my head looked lopsided and I do not do, lopsided do's.   Thanks, yer a doll~

It's been awhile, Lori...but well worth the wait!

so many touching, deep lines
and some that sweep over, like
" . . . the summer wind
blowing love in all directions"

Sigh,

Naive to believe you could beat the absolutes?  I dunno, I think you just needed to figure out that you didn't have to fight anything.  Just let those beautiful, blue waters flow as they will, sit back with a tall, cold drink and let the scenes print photos in your head.
Have missed ya, Bluesy.  Seems the time's done well by you.
