Angelo is twelve,
and he’s pretty well fed-up.

He’s tired of living
in this slummy hood.

He’s tired of the dirt,
the smell,
the noise,
and the constant danger,
of the only home
he’s ever known.

He just knows for sure,
there has to be something
better out there.

He’s seen pictures
of this better
and more beautiful world,
on the tube.

He goes up to his room,
and packs his school bag
full of clean clothes—
oh yeah.

He’s way tired of school too.

Sally catches him
going out the door.

‘Yo—Angelo,
where you think
you is goin?”

“I’m getting out of here,
don’t try to stop me.”

“Oh—yeah, okay,
just wait a minute.”

Sally goes out to the kitchen,
and packs the kid a lunch,
and hands it to him.

Angelo’s back within the hour.

Bobby

My Mom did that to me too.  You write wonderful 'slice of life' poems, Bobby.  When is your Felix poetry book coming out - or is it already published?

Thanks Dear Alison,

Packing them a lunch seems to work.  I know it always did for my kids when they "ran away".

Of course some kids do have to run away for their own safty.  People shouldn't forget that.  There's a lot of them.

The "Felix" book should be out by the end of the year.  It's just about done.

Thanks for your kind interest.

Thanks Linda,

They are both smart cookies.  They go through life trying to outsmart each other.  It keeps them sharp, and keeps them alive.

Thanks Dear RDB,

Yes, Sally was always good at handling situations like that.

Love Bobby
