Went to the park today—
Land of woodchips and old swings.

Home of young hearts and dreams,
Finding peace in scraped knees and dirt.

Sat on a bench—
Looking for something but unexpecting.

Wanted to jump on a swing,
And throw my feet towards the heavens.

Needed to get past these things here—
Hoping I still knew how to swing high enough to get away.

A flash in the corner of my eye—
A hint of laughter came closer to my ear.

One, lonely, girl sat on the swing and kicked her legs up.
Small laughter sprinkled in spurts as a smile broke.

Low winds swirled leaves on the ground,
And I stood to walk away and come another day.

Hearing the old swing creak
I wished I could change things; wished I could swing away—

swing away, swing away, swing away…

DearDearShaggy~
What beauty in these thoughts~

I was just out on the very woodchipped play area with my four year old granddaughter and she was reaching for the tree branches with her toes ... laughing with glee~

'One, lonely, girl sat on the swing and kicked her legs up.
Small laughter sprinkled in spurts as a smile broke.'

That is priceless ... thank you for joining our group of friends and poets~

Let the young heart guide you to the old swing and swing back the spirit of youth.

Beautiful poem and touched me with a bit sadness.

Your imagery was beautiful.  The picture left me searching of a swing of my own to escape on.  Thanks for sharing
