Ill Fated

With a kiss it began.
Four years to the day,
Now the drift away.
And slowly a moments memory
Eats both hearts to decay.
Oh what could have been
Had but one more kiss been had.

She’s broken now,
From one ill fated kiss,
His unforgotten
Her perfect image of his face,
A lone picture
Of a happy day.

He gave but one kiss,
Never thought his heart he’d give away
Though now he stands
A heart not his
So fragile beats within his hands

She took his kiss
Unknowingly a stolen heart she holds,
Beating and breaking
As they decay.
A heart as broken a thing
As her own must have been
Held so gently by his hand.

One kiss,
Such poison to the lips.
Oh to know such an end,
To long for the moment it begun.
Never knowing a last embrace
They watched the other steel away.

But all the pain he’d feel again
And all the heartache
She’d endure one more
To keep but one ill-fated kiss.
A memory neither lets away
As hearts wither to decay.

I do believe that without the right chemistry,
some relationships are as this is titled,
"Ill Fated".

And sometimes it seems, people just work hard
to make them so, instead of working hard in the other direction to make them right.
