How do you put the pieces together
when part of the puzzle is lost forever
to go on with life never seems quite fair
knowing your loved one is no longer there
One step at a time each foot finds the ladder
climbing up and away from a heart that has shattered
each memory so precious you try to hold near
fearing they'll fade with each passing year
replaying the face that held such sweetness
brings forth the sorrow and moments of weakness
it's still to soon to understand just why
of all those in the world, why our little guy?
Life slowly goes on since we laid him to rest
Our comfort is knowing God takes only the best

Very poignant poem, dear Kris. It seems there is no satisfying answer ever to the "Why?" in these cases. In keeping the bond of love alive there is hope to cope with life.
