Sitting here,
tapping,
with nothing
to write.
I think of things
that I like
and used
to like.

I liked Lee Marvin
even when he was
James Coburn

I like the white crane
even when it stands
in the snow and has
a different color

I liked Hillary
when she was
my elementary
school's librarian

I liked Sammy Davis Jr.
even when he was
Lola Falana

I liked Obama
when he was
George Washington
Carver

I like Steven Tyler
but think he looks better
when he is Carly Simon

I like deviled ham
even when it is
potted meat

I liked McCain
back when we
hunkered in rain barrels,
hiding from Cornwallis

I like Oprah
even when she
is Della Reese

I like coffee
although it is not
my cup of tea

I liked Aaron Neville's mole
when it used to perform
as a California Raisin

I like my many layers
even though
deep down
I am quite shallow

I like things
even when they
are no things

Sitting here,
